Continuing Education Units
The Home Study Institute provides academic recognition for courses completed in the form of Continuing Education Units (CEUs). An official transcript is provided for each course completed that includes CEUs earned grade average and course description. Since graduate records are kept indefinitely, additional transcripts can be obtained from the Institute at any time at no cost.
The CEU values assigned to HARDI Home Study Institute courses are indicated with each course description.
What is the CEU?
The CEU is a nationally recognized, standard unit of measurement awarded by colleges, professional , trade associations and other organizations. Under the CEU system, one unit is awarded for "ten contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience, under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction."
How was the system developed?
The CEU was developed by a National Task Force — under the joint sponsorship of the National University Extension Association, The American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, the U.S. Civil Service Commission and the U.S. Office of Education. After an extensive of nationwide continuing education programs, the Task Force arrived at the Continuing Unit to recognize and record a person's participation in qualified non-credit programs.
What does the CEU mean to you and your career?
CEUs may serve as a record of maintenance or improvement of professional competence, career advancement or for other purposes where evidence of professional advancement may be required.
Under the Home Study Institute CEU system — you will have a permanent confidential "transcript" for each course you have successfully completed. You may also have your cumulative record made available — at any time — to persons authorized by you.
